A unique birthday card

Hi everybody,

Life became very busy over the weekend. Things settled a bit today but still lots ot do. So I am sharing a card I made for PC submission call but didn’t get picked up.Here is the card.

This card is inspired by Typography. Here is a picture that particularly inspired me.

I am inspired by the lines and used it for my card layout. Not the colours. I used my own colours and sentiments to make my card. And you also see the lines are not exactly the same but somewhere closer to the picture. All you will need is a rough layout and you can make it your own:)

I love how my card turned out and hope you do too.

I am hoping to craft this afternoon. So hoping to share something with you soon:)

Inspired By Pinterest

Hi Everybody,
Today post is all about how I interpret a picture into a card. I have had emails from a few of you asking me how I do this. I will try to explain to you as best as I can.
This is a picture I found on Pinterest. Pinned it immediately

Two things struck me when I saw this picture.

First:  The bright colours of blue and pink tulips and green against white.
Second: The geometric pattern on the blue canvas. I knew that Hip To Be Square large stamp from Paper Smooches is perfect for it.
Keeping those two in mind, I started out to make a card. Now for the tulip, I had Flower Fusion Tulip stamp set from PTI. Gracious Vases larger version will work with Tulip but my set is still in transit, so I will make do with what I have.
Since the geometric pattern is bright and modern,I wanted to keep everything on my card clean and  modern. So a modern tulip stamp set, a font which does not have swirls or curves and a solid colour cardstock was the way to go for me.
Now to determine the layout of my card. I like the blue canvas in the picture with the pink tulips in front of it. So I am going to keep that for my card. I heat embossed the Hip To Be Square on Tempting Turquoise cardstock and trimmed into a rectangle panel.I then stamped and cut the tulips and layered on the blue embossed rectangle panel using foam squares. I chose a very simple birthday font sentiment from Inside Out Birthday stamp set from PTI. Stamped on white piece of cardstock and adhered sideways. See the books on the picture? That was my inspiration for the placement of my sentiment strip.
Now, just the blue panel with flowers and sentiment on white cardstock by itself did not look good. There were too many vertical elements, the vertical blue panel, flowers all vertical and the sentiment although placed on the side, was still vertical. Finally the card base is also vertical. To balance all the vertical elements, I decided to use a horizontal panel in bright pink – same colour as the tulips. Now the card feels balanced.  I placed all the elements a bit lower on the card front and not right in the middle because I like the open white space. Eyes are still drawn to the flowers, patterned blue and bright pink panels. I would say my card is complete and ready to photograph and publish.
It is not always possible to use a picture to make a complete card. At times I use a picture just for the layout of my card or use just the colours to make my card. I then add sentiments and focal points according to the requirement for a challenge or theme.
I hope I have explained how I work on a card using an inspirtional picture. I will be happy to hear your comments and answer any questions you have for me.

I love hearing about babies being born. Whether it is from family or friends, new born babies news always makes me happy. I get jealous when my hubby comes home from the hospital and says, there is a cute baby born today and that he got to carry the baby Or says that he got to carry a baby to calm her as she was crying a lot and wanted to give the mother a break. I love babies.
A big congrats to both Sarah and Cristina. Enjoy your break and time with your new babies:)

Baby cards and coordinating tags.

Gallery Idol 2012 girls have joined together for an awesome blog hop. It is called Shaping Up Blog Hop. I decided to play it along as well.
I decided to go for baby cards. Reason being I have the big onesie die from Papertrey Ink and recently added a smaller onesie die from Taylored Expressions to my collection. I thought to make onesie card and a coordinating tag for baby boy and girl.
Edited: Wondering why I chose baby cards for summer shaping up card challenge? Apparently more babies are born in Summer than Winter!

Here is the baby boy card and tag.

I chose to go for a clean and simple design. I have used the Fly Away dies from Papertrey Ink and  Bundle Of Love stamp set for my card and tag.
Here is the baby girl card and tag.
For the girl’s card and tag, I used butterfly dies from Papertrey Ink and buttons.
Aren’t they adorable together?  I love them.
Hope you do too!

Have a great day!

Marbleized Tie n Dye Technique.

Hello everybody,
I found some time this afternoon to play using a techniques tutorial shown at Stamp-a Faire at Papertrey Ink. T his tutorial is called Marbleized Tie n Dye.
Well, I went through my husband’s vanity and did not find shaving cream! Found only shaving gel! What a disaster? I am not going to buy a shaving cream. So I decided to try using the gel. To my surprise, it did work. I loved the marble effect. So cool and looked like modern art. Wow!
I made a set of cards using the marbleized panels

I have used Sweet Blush and Aqua Mist reinkers to get my marbleized effect.

I love the silhouette Life and Larger than Life images on the marbleized background.

This panel here was my trial panel and I love the subtle effect on it. Great technique. I have to try using with other colour combinations. After all I will have to buy shaving cream lol!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Have a great weekend!
